Weslaco wins again, defeating Sharyland Week 4

MISSION, TEXAS - In a gridiron encounter that pitted the Weslaco Panthers against the Sharyland Rattlers, the Panthers emerged victorious with a 28-7 win in a non-district showdown. While Coach Roy Stroman termed it an "ugly win," he acknowledged the Rattlers' preparedness under Coach Krell. The Panthers showcased a strategic approach with a well-rounded offense averaging 353 yards per game and a robust defense that allowed only one offensive touchdown, spearheaded by defensive stalwarts Matt Garza and William Cannon.

Eli Rodriguez and Andres Sepulveda played pivotal roles for Weslaco's offense, with Rodriguez delivering an impressive 85-yard touchdown run. Despite facing defensive pressure, Sepulveda exhibited composed leadership, orchestrating successful plays, including an 18-yard touchdown pass to Harley Rodriguez. Sharyland, although initially challenged, gained late momentum as Bo Krell led a notable drive, featuring Santiago Longoria's remarkable one-handed catch and Krell's subsequent 1-yard touchdown run. As the teams brace for upcoming district schedules, both Weslaco and Sharyland, with winning records, recognize the importance of building momentum and overcoming obstacles in preparation for the competitive district matchups. The Panthers are set to face Harlingen, while Sharyland hosts Roma on Oct. 6.
