Diamondbacks Win Snakeskin Classic, Defeat Rattlers 33-27
MISSION, TX — The Sharyland Pioneer Diamondbacks secured a 33-27 victory over the Sharyland Rattlers in the 11th annual Snakeskin Classic on Friday night at Richard Thompson Stadium. The win places Pioneer (6-3 overall, 2-1 in district) in second place in District 15-5A Division II, confirming their postseason spot.
Pioneer quarterback William Goodloe played a crucial role in the Diamondbacks' success, throwing three touchdown passes and scoring on a decisive 95-yard run in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 33-20. Sharyland quarterback Calvin Harris kept the Rattlers competitive, contributing to three of their four touchdowns, with two rushing scores and one passing touchdown.
Pioneer took an early lead, going up 9-0 by the end of the first quarter. Sharyland’s scoring began in the second quarter when Santiago Longoria broke through for a 15-yard rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 12-6. Just before halftime, Harris connected with Longoria on a 20-yard touchdown pass, closing the gap to 19-13.
In the third quarter, Harris gave Sharyland a brief 20-19 lead with a 10-yard rushing touchdown, but Pioneer quickly answered with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Alejandro Mata, making it 26-20 going into the final quarter. Goodloe’s 95-yard touchdown run put Pioneer ahead 33-20 with seven minutes remaining. Harris responded with a three-yard rushing touchdown, narrowing the score to 33-27, but the Rattlers’ final drive stalled as Pioneer’s defense held on fourth down, securing the win.
With this victory, Pioneer narrows the all-time Snakeskin Classic record, which Sharyland still leads 7-4. Sharyland (5-5 overall, 2-2 in district) now moves to third place and heads into a bye week, while Pioneer prepares for a final regular-season game against Mission Veterans.
