Vela crushes Rowe in final week of regular season
EDINBURG, TEXAS - In their District 15-5A DI finale, the Edinburg Vela SaberCats showcased their dominance, securing a commanding 56-12 victory over the McAllen Rowe Warriors at Richard R. Flores Stadium. With this win, the SaberCats (9-1, 6-1) solidify their position as the No. 2 seed in District 15-5A DI, setting the stage for a bi-district round matchup against the No. 3 seed from District 16-5A DI. Meanwhile, McAllen Rowe (4-6, 3-4) concludes its season in fifth place in the district standings.
The SaberCats' multifaceted offensive display was led by running back Jamal Polley, who notched three rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Myles Lopez orchestrated the air attack with three touchdown passes, including a 51-yard connection with Jaxson Shupe, an 8-yard corner fade to Bernabe Gonzalez, and an impressive 85-yard catch and run to Jonathan Flores. Adding to the offensive showcase, Flores contributed a 16-yard rushing touchdown in the second half. The SaberCats' dominance was evident from the opening kickoff, with Dimas De Leon returning it 79 yards for a touchdown.
