McAllen Memorial Cruises to 45-7 Win Over Juarez-Lincoln

October 17, 2024 – McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium

MCALLEN - The McAllen Memorial Mustangs defeated the La Joya Juarez-Lincoln Huskies 45-7 on Thursday night, controlling the game from start to finish in a district matchup. The Mustangs improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in district play.

The Mustangs scored on their first six possessions and rushed for 437 yards in total. Running back JP Garza opened the scoring with a short touchdown run on the first drive, and Memorial never looked back. Garza added a second touchdown later in the first quarter, finishing with two scores.

Jayden Solis and Braxton Speights also contributed to the scoring, each finding the end zone on powerful runs. Quarterback Kane Coy connected with wide receiver Hugo Rodriguez for a 46-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, extending the lead.

Juarez-Lincoln struggled to gain momentum but avoided a shutout when running back Armando Aleman scored on an 18-yard run late in the second quarter. Memorial’s defense kept the Huskies in check for most of the game, forcing a key turnover and limiting Juarez-Lincoln’s offense to short gains.

Memorial’s offensive line controlled the game, allowing multiple running backs to shine. Garza, Solis, and Speights all found success on the ground, keeping the Huskies’ defense off balance. Coy added 66 passing yards to complement the running game, including his touchdown pass to Rodriguez.

The Mustangs rotated in younger players during the second half but continued to run the ball effectively. Backup quarterback Eric Garcia led a long drive in the fourth quarter, which ended in a missed field goal. Kicker Jonathan Sanchez made all six of his extra points and added a 37-yard field goal earlier in the game.

Juarez-Lincoln, now 1-6 overall and 0-4 in district, showed effort late in the game, but turnovers and penalties hurt their chances of keeping up with the Mustangs. Despite a few positive plays, the Huskies could not overcome Memorial’s early lead.

The win keeps McAllen Memorial unbeaten in district play as they prepare for a key matchup against Edinburg Vela next week. Juarez-Lincoln will look to bounce back when they face Palmview. Final score, McAllen Memorial 45, Juarez-Lincoln 7.
